Horizon Christian Fellowship

West Sacramento, California

According to their Web site, the mission of Horizon’s ministry to women is “to create an atmosphere that encourages, equips, and involves the women of Horizon Christian Fellowship to better serve Christ, each other and the community.” Ten women serve on the leadership team, many of them heading up individual ministries such as hospitality, ministry to singles, prayer, and Celebrate Recovery.

Horizon is located in multicultural West Sacramento, and the ethnic diversity is reflected on the Women’s leadership team. Led by coordinator Vickie Stanfill, the team consists of Aimee Schlie, Erin Hinton, Kelly Einsel, Lori Hartin, Jodi Bullard, Rosa Garcia, Jessie Mendez, Sherry Stevens, Roni Stevens and Linda Stahl.

In addition to quarterly Women’s Fellowships, the women of Horizon Christian Fellowship (HCF) have a monthly Saturday morning breakfast and Bible study called Heart to Heart. What started with just a handful of women several years ago has grown into a group of 50 regular attendees.

Evangelism outreach events include a luncheon in May and a dinner in December. Women at HCF are encouraged to bring friends who normally wouldn’t come to church, and generally these events draw anywhere from 25 to 40 women who are unchurched.

This August, the women of HCF are hosting “Queen for a Day,” which will be an outreach to disadvantaged women and their children. This day of pampering will include all the amenities of a styling salon—manicures, makeup and hair styles—all while child care is provided for the little ones. In addition, new clothing will be given to the attendees and their children. Finally, dinner will be served to them and they will have an opportunity to hear the gospel message.

Vickie Stanfill strives to get to know each woman in her group, in the hopes of helping them find their own place of ministry. Toward that end, the theme of their retreat this year is Developing a Servant’s Heart. The focus will be helping each woman identify her gifts and talents, and then showing her how those gifts can be used in ministry.
